Hurricane Ike!
Hurricane season is once again upon us, although we rarely have to worry about hurricanes in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky except for lots of rain and some flooding, this year was different. Ike left Galveston devastated and only brought a minor mess to the folks in Lake Charles (some flying debris and a short loss of power). But, Sunday Cincinnati saw the worst windstorm in the history of the city tear its way through our area. 90 percent of the tristate area was without power come Sunday evening. The streets looked like a war-zone. Most of the traffic lights were non functioning, trees were down, siding had been ripped off buildings and homes, homes had lost shingles or even huge portions of their roofs, and there were limbs and leaves covering everything. Grif and I were home alone and very scared, but seemed to manage fine until Mike got home from the Bengals game. I just kept watching those huge trees all around us. We once again have another tree down in the backyard, but luckily it decided to fall on the jungle gym instead of the house. We were very lucky to not have more damage. Our power was only out for about 8 hours, but there are still hundreds without electricity now 5 days after the storm. What a mess. Hurricanes are definitely not supposed to come this far north. If its this bad here, we can't image what the people of Texas are going through. Every night we say a prayer for those who have lost so much.
